Matti Tappanainen -- Sauna installer for Coquitlam, Vancouver, West Vancouver, North Vancouver, Deep Cove, Squamish, Whistler
Matti has been building Finnish saunas for Thuja Saunas since 1999.
In fact, he has been building Finnish saunas for a lot longer. You might say Matti was born into Finnish saunas, since his father launched Sauna King in Coquitlam, in the 1970's. It was also in Coquitlam that Matti build his first sauna, helping his father with an install. A Finnish father and son sauna building team.... hard to get more Finnish without going to Finland!!!
Matti has installed saunas all over the Vancouver area. His favorite sauna is one that he built in West Vancouver: "I really like that sauna because it has a huge triple insulated window overlooking downtown Vancouver, Kitsilano/ Point Grey and the water in front of West Vancouver. You can enjoy a finnish sauna with a breathtaking view of Vancouver."
Among other interesting projects: a wood burning sauna up Indian Arm. "We took a small boat from Deep Cove, packed all the sauna materials, framed all day and came back to Deep Cove at night."
Matti can claim a sauna experience few people have had: a finnish sauna in the back of his family RV as a child: "My father put together a cedar sauna in the RV. We were the most popular camper in every campsite we went to. Squamish, Whistler, Mount Baker, the hot springs near Pemberton -- everywhere we went camping in the Lower Mainland, other campers came to see and try out the sauna in the Finnish camper. We took that thing all over the Vancouver area."
Matti takes saunas every time he has a chance. His usual sauna spot: the testing room at the Sauna King factory on Vancouver Island.
Matti is also our sauna construction trainer for Vancouver and Lower Mainland builders and installers. He is co-author of the Thuja Sauna Installation Manual.
